The D7430 Executive Committee (our District Executive Committee) challenged all of the Rotary Clubs in our district with a humanitarian appeal and the Warminster Rotary Club decided to step up to the plate making two donations to those in need at their August Board Meeting.

In response to the ongoing wildfires raging through Colorado, Operation Warm has activated an emergency response effort to raise the funds necessary to ship 1,000 coats to Colorado.  These coats will go directly to the children of the families who have been displaced by these horrible wildfires and have lost many of their belongings and clothes.  Our Club is donating $500 to Operation Warm to help reach this goal.  You can read more about this specific cause at the Operation Warm Blog.

Also, devastating floods in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia have killed hundreds of people and left thousands more homeless.  As is the case with disasters such as this, Rotary's ShelterBox program had boots on the ground as the flood waters were receding, assessing the situation and helping those in need.  You may be asking, "What is ShelterBox"?  ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.  With response instantly following natural and other disasters, literal boxes of aid are delivered to those who need it most.  Each ShelterBox supplies an extended family with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.  ShelterBox is now firmly established at the forefront of disaster relief and their work constantly earns the respect of outside agencies around the world.  Each box costs $1,000 to assemble and send to their destination and Warminster Rotary proudly contributes annually to the cause.  At the August Board Meeting, our club decided to double down by contributing $1,000 to ShelterBox for the victims of the flood which is in addition to our annual contribution.

While we focus on our immediate community's needs, the Warminster Rotary Club is also involved in the international community, helping those in need around the world.  This is what sets us apart as an elite service organization and truly defines what being a Rotarian is all about.  If you are interested in donating individually to the causes or want to learn more, check out www.operationwarm.org and www.shelterboxusa.org.
